IGL’s Solar Field Array (Array) will consist of five major subsystems:
Solar Collector Assemblies (SCAs)
Solar Collector Assemblies (SCAs) that include reflective panels (e.g. mirrors or films) and Parabolic troughs that support the reflective panels and connect to towers.
Receivers, mounted on the SCAs, to collect heat and generate steam.
Towers, which include the bearings for SCAs and the drive units that allows the SCAs to rotate and track the sun, which connect the SCAs and receivers to the ground anchors or foundations. Note: the foundations are not included as they are site specific and part of site preparation.
Rotating joints and connecting pipework
Rotating joints and connecting pipework to supply feed water and convey steam to an electricity generation system.
Control and tracking system
Fully automated control and tracking system.
The heart of IGL’s technology innovation is in the SCAs and the incorporation of the Norwich receivers. There has been significant standardisation of items 3-5 within the solar thermal trough manufacturing industry thus the focus of IGL’s new contribution will be improved methods of manufacturing and field installation to minimise labor costs in items 1 & 2.
